Ralph McQuarrie

I was having a chat via Skype with my brother this morning and we spent a bit of time discussing Star Wars as he was currently rewatching the prequel films.  By an unhappy coincidence, later in the afternoon I heard the news that one of the original concept artists, Ralph McQuarrie, passed away today.

I wasn’t familar with McQuarrie until his death but reading through some messageboard threads I came across some of his artwork and I think it looks absolutely phenomenal.  It’s clear this guys vision and illustrations for Star Wars was a major contributing factor to how the original trilogy ended up looking.  I’ve spent the last hour or so poring over his work.

I thought I’d share some of my favourite ones here.
