So it seems several news stories broke all at once in the U.K.
- News of the World were email and phone hacking dozens of celebrities, sports personalities, royalty and famous victims of crimes. Most notably, it has come out that they deleted voicemail messages from the phone of a family who was the victim of a child murder. Comprehensive list here.
- NewsCorp bribed the police in exchange for their silence
- David Cameron hired an ex-News of the World editor who worked at the organisation when this took place
- NewsCorp are looking to buy BSkyB in spite of incredibly dubious ethical behaviour. This is a-okay with Cameron.
- The whole thing looks a bit messy right now.
I feel kind of bad for complaining about the quality of journalism in Australia. We just get lots of shitty current affair programming about shonky tradesmen and fad diets.
