At long last, Nintendo revealed their next home video game console and successor to the Wii U. Named ‘Nintendo Switch’, the hardware reflected a lot of the rumours swirling around the Japanese platform developer as being a hybrid system that could be played on the television, or carried around as portable tablet with ‘bolt on’ controllers.
There is a lot at stake for Nintendo after the disastrous sales performance of the Wii U. The system certainly shows a shift in approach. It’s muted grey colouring is a noticable shift away from the more playful designs of previous generations of hardware this first reveal is noticable for eschewing footage of kids and families in favour of a Gen Y early thirties target audience.
We’ll know more early next year when Nintendo announce further details including launch games and other hardware features.
