In December, Jen and I celebrated our 13th anniversary dinner at Urbane.
Urbane is an old favourite of ours. It’s a restaurant that we’ve had the pleasure of dining at many times and is right up there with 85 Miskin St as one of my favourite fine dining restaurants in Brisbane. It had been a couple of years since we were there last and I was keen to revisit to sample the menu under new head chef Josh Raine.
The other thing that has been bugging me for years is that Urbane is that they produce some fantastically striking and innovative food (last time I was served duck tongue out of a test tube) but the venue is so damn dark I can never take any good photos that do it justice.
At the end of the night, my thoughts were that the food and service were as good as ever and I still can’t take any flattering photos. The ‘atmospheric lighting’ in the venue means that any photos I take come out super grainy and lacking any sharpness or detail. Oh well. You’ll just have to take my word for the quality of the food and presentation.
Jen and I had the eight course omnivore tasting menu. My favourite dishes were the tomato consomme and the wagyu steak with juniper greens.
Wasabi and seaweed
Mushroom and jerusalem artichoke broth
Onion and zuchini flower
Tomato consomme
Jamon
Calimari
Emu and cabbage
Wagyu and juniper greens
White chocolate and lemon grass
Honeycomb
